I saw your blog on the and noticed the visit to the Gallaghers/Carabines. My father (Rodger) Patrick Doherty (born 1898) came from the cottage next door to theirs. He emigrated to US (Philidepphia) in 1922 ,returning to Ireland in c 1937 then to Scotland in 1938 where he met my mother. He lived here until hid death in 1979. I have a fair amount of information about the family and am very interested about any info about his time in US where I imagine he had contact with your relatives who would have been his cousins/second cousins Regards Liam Doherty
So nice to hear from you. Do you have any idea about what your father did while in the US? Who he stayed with? Did he go by Patrick or Rodger. I searched the 1930 census to see if I could find him, but there are 100s of Patrick Dohertys. Would you happen to have exact dates or ship names for his emmigration/immigration? How was your dad related to Rodger Doherty - the father of Susanna and Rose. What did your dad do in Scotland?
One Dougherty (Doherty) sister, Susanna, married a Carbine and Rose married a Morris. My husband's family is descended from Rose's son Patrick. I will contact the Morris uncles/aunt to see if they remember your dad. Patrick was a cattle dealer in Yeadon, PA, just over the Darby Creek from Philadelphia.
I will also contact Susanna's direct descendant, Msgr. Francis Carbine. He is the one who started me on this never-ending journey and has been most helpful. He has published a history of the Carbines.
Sorry for all the questions, but they may provide clues when reading the records.
I will let you know as soon as I come up with anything.
Hi i came across your page while carring out some research on my wifes family. Her name is Oonagh Gallen, her father is Kevin Gallen, his father was Paddy Gallen whoes mother was Catherine Carabine from Killygordon whos father was Charlie. Kevin was born in Killygordon but moved to Strabane in the 70s. Kevin is still going strong and is 83. If i can help please contact me and i will pass any info that is usefull.
Nice to hear from you. I had an inquiry this week from someone looking for information on James Carabine, also a son of Charles. Do you have any info on James?
Also, my maternal grandfather was Charles Gallen b. 1898, PA, son of Charles Gallen (naturalized 1878 Philadelphia)and Anna Quinn m. 1886 in Philadelphia, both were Irish immigrants. I have nothing on the Gallens in Ireland, does any of this look familiar?
